Beethoven (aka Bart) the most wonderful big Sarplaniac cross pup- 10 month male looking for his forever home

Beethoven (aka Bart)10 month old fantastic dog looking for a home

Beethoven is just 10 months old and yet he has suffered more hardships than any dog deserves. Mozart and 6 siblings were born on the streets to a feral mother who, being quite young could not look after them very well. Living on scraps of food herself, meant that her milk wasn't very filling so her pups spent every day feeling the pains of hunger.

One day their luck changed when a lovely lady gathered them up from the streets and took them into her rescue.

2 of Beethovens siblings have now found homes but for Mozart, Aida and Beethoven they are still waiting for their wish to come true and find their very own forever home.

Beethoven has a wonderful character, loves to play, sweet and kind but most of all he loves to be around people and to be cuddled! He weighs around 19 kg and is 57 cm long and will make life complete for anyone who decides to give him a good home and lots of love! Please read up on the Sarplaninac breed.

He is the most wonderful big pup you could ever meet. He is so intelligent and clever, wanting to learn new things all the time. He does get along with other dogs as long as they don't try to pinch his fave toy, bed, chew etc, but he is learning now NOT to nip their bottoms when he wants something back This young dog needs a forever home, he adores human company and is brilliant at travelling. At the moment he goes on aid runs etc with AAFA in the ambulance up and down the country, he is the co pilot and thoroughly enjoys meeting new people and getting out and about.

Yes he is going to be a big lad...At the moment he is not quite used to his size and lanky legs as they are growing. hence why he keeps getting stuck in small spaces that he once would have been able to get through or under I did say he was a big dopey pup didn't I. Oh and also...he gets along fine with cats

Jazz, tricolour gentle 14 month male looking for his forever home

Jazz, tricolour gentle 14 month male looking for his forever home

Jazz - 14 month old male, tri colour- Wonderful Temperament
Poor Jazz a sweet lovely boy was abandoned to the streets by his former owners through no fault of his own. For a dog like Jazz this is so very hard learning how to survive, to beg for food and to then have to face the abusers in the village that would chase him and his other stray friends, kicking and beating the just because they wagged their tails and went up to the humans asking for food.

It is amazing that this did not turn Jazz away from humans, but he still did not just crave food, he wanted to feel loved again. To be fussed again, to be part of a family.

Thankfully he was rescued by an English couple living in Bulgaria and they in turn asked for our charities help. Which of course we were more than pleased to offer.

Jazz now is safe in the UK, but he needs he very own forever home.

His foster tells us, he is such a lovely laid back dog. No trouble at all. Friendly with all around him dogs or humans alike.

This boy needs a family to call his own, where he will never be abandoned again.

If you could offer him this please contact your charity as soon as possible.

Billy 12 month old sweet little fella, great with humans, dogs and cats, will make the perfect new family member

BIlly - 12 month old wonderful little fella - Fostered in Staffordshire

This is gorgeous sweet Billy, he is a beautiful 12 month old small mix breed male desperate for a home.
He is truly a sweet cuddly, and gentle little lad who once he gets to you know you has a really lovely personality, getting along with everyone, humans, dogs, cats his a real sweetheart

He loves people, and adores children, this little fella really would complete a family giving them as much love and loyalty as any wee dog can muster.

When you see and meet Billy it is mind boggling that he was infact rescued from a group of dog cat catchhers who had cornered him and some other dogs, beating them over and over. Thank goodness the rescuer was there and intervened stopping the men from beating this poor little boy and taking him with her. He was one of the very lucky ones that day, most abandoned dogs just like little Billy get taken to horrific kill stations in the Balkans. Our volunteer saved Billy's life that day, but he still needs help- he is desperate for a home.

Billy is currently in foster with our charity and desperately needs to find that forever home.

If you would like to adopt Billy please contact our charity as soon as possible

Tommy, 1.5 year young male Ridgeback cross looking for a loving forever home

Tommy is approx 1.5 year male Ridgeback cross. We were asked to step in approx 6 months ago when this lovely dog needed to be moved from his then home alonng with many other dogs.

We could go on all day long about this wonderful boy but the best person to tell you about Tommy is his foster mum , who in fairness has worked so hard with him, helping to make him into the confident and playful boy is today.

Tommy's foster mum tells us
He is a pleasure to own in that he loves me he is patient and waits his turn for strokes/food to be put down to him last/getting ready for walks. He is good in the car, jumps in back (hatchback) lays and sits patiently when I open the back to get him out. Is quiet too. (not like my 3, barking and then trying to grab 3 leads when I open the back ) also he is very clean in house.

Tommy loves rough and tumble play with other dogs. He walks well on the lead and whereas before when he first arived in foster with me he had major issues with men and also other dogs, now however he is perfectly fine and well behaved.

He has changed from being a very nervous and mistrustful young dog to be confident and very well behaved. When Tommy is off the lead he thinks all dogs are for playing with and greets them all, there has been an occasional growl but no real aggression or fight because with all other dogs he is submissive and if one growls at him he turns and runs.

Tommy can be took wrongly because he thought to be a ridge back cross he looks like he has his hackles up with some greetings but to be honest knowing him as I do and observing his behaviour for months now, this is actually his Would like to get you know more thing he does. Unfortunately to some dogs they may see this raised scruff of the next to be an aggression signal. Poor Tommy only wants to play and say hello.

He will let me take anything off him including a bone and has never once tried to bite me, even in the beginning when I was dragging him to the crate by his collar, he could have had me several times but didn't. he greets people in the park too now but he has to check THEM out.

If someone puts their hand out to him first he backs off. his recall is good most of the time and he has a big smile on his face when he runs back to me. he doesn't actually wander too far, even in the woods he comes back on his own to check on me and he waits up the path when I tell him too.

Background and any neg points....When he came here he used to nip mine and Nigel's bum with excitement for a greeting. it bloody hurt too! stopped that but the trouble is, his way of checking people out is like dogs do, he sniffs bottoms. so in the park he will go up behind people or even trot along behind someone walking, sniffing their bums. Luckily he hasn't nipped ye or yet again for poor Tommy this could be taken the wrong way.

There are times when I want him to come in from the garden and he digs his heels in and runs off, its a game for him so has to be ignored. although he is fine with Rosie and foxy, he is still aggressive towards buster. I wouldn't home him with another male. He will growl when passing through a doorway if another dog is there. It's His doorway so move kinda thing. not a problem anywhere else at all. 77

Although he is not bothered about toys you could guarantee if another dog had one he would want it. there has been a fisty cuffs with buster because buster has aimlessly walked past a piece of wood that Tommy had found and been chewing on. I can't give them bones because of this.

I would advise strongly against a household with young children as he is scared of them and gives them a wide birth. if a kid runs up to him, Tommy runs away. A doggy friend tried to get her 3/4 year old to give Tommy a treat, he very warily took it from him and then when the kid held his hand out again, Tommy growled and backed off.

He still needs someone who knows what they are doing although changing homes could set him back a few steps , hopefully not.

In all honesty he wouldn't be going anywhere if I could take all 4 out on my own without getting dragged over.

In brief Tommy is one lovely dog and needs the best home , this boy has been through so much and come such a long way from when I first fostered him...He really does deserve the most loving forever home

Tommy is:
Microchipped
Vaccinated
Sterilised
Has Full EU Passport

House trained
Lead trained
Better with females than males but in general a friendly dog to all he meets

NOT to be adopted into a home with young children as he is scared of them
Not known if Cat friendly so would advise against

Aki - 8 month old male terrier cross in the UK

Here is Aki - he is a typical lively terrier, intelligent with a streak of mischief, he enjoys nothing more than to hide his foster mums teaspoons at every opportunity.

After his poor start in life Aki really relishes a good cuddle with his foster family when he is not playing with doggy friends. Good with children he is a keen bird watcher, yes that's right, he sits and watches the birds, without barking or trying to chase them.

Aki is initially wary of men, probably due to previous experience, but with time and patience comes around and is his usual playful, loving self.

Aki was caught on the streets of Croatia and taken to the pound where he was rescued at the 11th hour and brought to the UK where he is in foster care.

Good with adults, children and other dogs but not cats. Could you offer Aki a permanent loving home where he can settle and become part of a family at last, getting the cuddles and love that he deserves after such a hard start to life.

TERRY - 10 months old female crossbreed - on death row in Croatia

This is Terry - lovely medium sized crossbreed.

Meet Terry who is a sweet girl who may not have much time left as her death date is going to be 1st September 2014. As you can see, she is a cute young thing and will make somebody a wonderful companion. She has had a rough start to life in the streets of Croatia, trying to survive on bits of food and seeking shelter in the most unlikely places just to stay out of the rain and the cold, being a constant target for other dogs and also humans, who think it is "fun" to torture or even kill these street dogs. All she is asking for now is love and care. Terry is good with other dogs and children and adults alike.

Stray and abandoned dogs in Croatia are often brutally treated and abused.  A life on the streets is a miserable existence with the danger of starvation, being run down by cars (frequently deliberately), violence at the hands of people or other dogs and and suffering due to disease and lack of treatment but the dog who is picked up and taken to the pound has only 60 days and then by Croatian law they must be killed.

However, we are fortunate enough in this kill shelter to have a resident vet who is also the manager as part of our network of animal rescuers.  He tries to get the dogs adopted and extends their time to do so but if the local city hall should order him to kill those who have reached their 60 days in the pound the law can't be resisted. This law is not the only danger of death in this pound, overcrowding is sometimes the cause of death and injury due to fights.

The vet does his best with the limited resources available, local volunteers are recruited to come and walk the dogs on a Saturday afternoon. This is the only time of the week the dogs can leave the pens and there can be long periods when the walks are not possible and due to the ratio of dogs to volunteers some will not get exercised at all.

These dogs have basic care but they suffer in the pound from stress, boredom, fear and sadness. They are all desperate to get out of their prison and be loved and part of a family.

MARK - 8 months old male crossbreed - on death row in Croatia

This is handsome Mark.

Mark is another stray, who probably ended up in the streets because of the colour of his fur. He was still a baby and must have had a terrible life in constant fear of dog and human attacks, trying to find some scraps of food and a little bit of water to sustain himself. Also to find shelter from rain and cold. This shows his immeasurable strength of character and instinct. Mark was lucky to be picked up by our volunteers, but as yet not lucky enough to find his forever home. All he asks for is regular food and drink, shelter, exercise and cuddles. Could you be the person/family to give him what he so desperately deserves?

ADONIS - 9 months old male crossbreed - on death row in Croatia

This is Adonis - his description is in his name.

Adonis is a handsome 9 month old Shepherd cross, as cute as anything - which is why he got his name. When he was found wandering the streets, his fur was matted, he was full of fleas and worms, but our wonderful volunteers took him in and he was treated. As you can see, he is now thriving and is a healthy boy, who would love nothing better than to find his forever home, where he is loved and cared for, with cuddles and grooming, with play and happiness.

Adonis may not have much time left as his death date is coming up on 9th September 2014. Adonis is good with other dogs as well as children and adults.

DANA - 8 months old female crossbreed - on death row in Croatia

Meet loving girl Dana.

Another pup that has been overlooked because of its black coat. We are not sure why black dogs are deemed as less desirable, because we know that they make loyal and loving companions, probably even more so because they feel that it is more difficult for them to be loved by humans. Dana was a stray until she got picked up by one of our great volunteers and put into the shelter. She is such a young girl still and would benefit so much if she could find a loving, caring family to take her in and give her the love and attention she deserves. Due to her age she would adapt easily to any life style and would be grateful for shelter, food and basic training.

ARIELA - 1 year old female crossbreed - on death row in Croatia

This is the gorgeous Ariela.

Ariela was found in the streets in Croatia and got taken into the shelter by one of our lovely volunteers. Ariela would have had a dangerous life before, fighting for scraps of food and drops of water every day, living in fear of being attacked by other dogs and also humans. She has so far been overlooked in the kennels - most likely because she is black. Ariela is a great dog, loves children and other dogs, and all she is hoping for is a secure future with a family she can call her own, a safe place with ample food and water, cuddles and some basic training. Can you give her this home?
